This is a bit of an odd request but I wonder if you can help me. 

I am trying to modify the T140 engine plates I bought to suit a later right hand brake lever T140. As I live in France getting materials really is a problem. I need to make up some spacers and a support for the brake lever pivot, which I intend to weld to the plates. Looking at the plates I bought from you it struck me that the scrap from the holes in the plates, specifically the brake lever hole and the swinging arm shaft would be ideal as a starting point as the thickness is correct and the material is obviously the same. Is it possible to obtain some of these scrap bits, or failing that some scrap of the same plate I can work with. Of course I’m happy to pay for these and P&P.

I thought I’d add a contribution to this thread, I’ve bought a few bits and pieces from a chap called John Thomas, and he’s located in the Black Country here in the UK. I have had a fair few parts from him for both OIF and pre OIF BSA singles, these include a B44 bash plate (which was so good I bought another for my ’68 250), I’ve had horn brackets, a brake torque arm and a lid for my B50 electrical box. All of these parts have proved to be a good fit, they are supplied un finished so can be polished or painted, all are laser cut so just need the sharp edges removing before finishing to your required standard. I’ve found John to be friendly and very helpful when I have had trouble knowing exactly which part I require so much so I have sent him some of my parts for him to duplicate and add to his range, he also make parts for other marques and some handy tools.

Have not received the goods yet but the on-line purchasing process and communication are splendid.

Hi John, thanks for the electronic box mounts brackets and lid, I’ve compared them with originals and they seem good but unfortunately my bike is away getting the exhaust system made, I will get back to you with the results when I can but I’m sure they are great. Alan Redmayne BSA B50 Horn Bracket

Hi John, attached are pictures showing your bracket on the two types of original horn I have, the bracket fits perfectly on the oif B50 but not on the earlier conventional frame type bikes. I hope your customer has just assumed that a unit single is the same no matter what the year! It’ll be hard to explain that not all aftermarket parts are as spot on as your stuff, are you from an engineering background?

I have attached a pic of my B50 just so you can have a laugh at my expense, it’s a bit of a ‘challenge’!

I will be after as much stainless as you get manufactured for my collection of unit singles this includes;

1 1968 Starfire
2 1969 T25
3 1968 B44
4 1971 B25 T / SS (no rolling chassis …. Yet)
5 1972 B50 T

I have another complete B44 motor so maybe It’ll be 6 one day, none of these are complete or assembled, I’m 52 and this is my retirement time fully occupied already, I hope, although I have a burning desire for a grey framed A65 … maybe a Firebird ?

I took a load of parts to the local platers earlier this week only to discover that they have packed in plating !!!!!! Can I give you a call after you receive this email in hope that you can recommend a good plater.

If you are up in north Lancashire any time I would be keen to meet up for a pint / cup of tea / good old natter about old bikes.

This picture shows the bracket positioned upside down over the rear of the horn, the holes in the bracket align perfectly with the horn, as does the inside radius of the bracket.

This is the horn from my 1968 BSA B25 Starfire with the original bracket

This picture shows the ‘72 B50 bracket positioned over the ‘68 B25 horn, the hole centres on the bracket are slightly closer together than the horn bolts and the radius of the horn is greater than the radius of the bracket.
